Match Predictions and Betting Odds
It is the second match of the first day of the ninth season of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and Barbados Royals square off against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.
Barbados Royals who were previously known as the Barbados Tridents and changed their name ahead of the start of this season as Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals acquired majority of the shares. They are one of the only three sides to have won the CPL title in the history of the competition. In fact, Barbados Royals have won two CPL titles – in 2014 and 2019. However, apart from those two seasons, Barbados Royals have been quite inconsistent. They have a win percentage of 44.44% in this tournament. Barbados Royals have a good all-round side. They seem to have plenty of all-round options and have a couple of bashers at the top in the form of Johnson Charles and Glenn Phillips. Jason Holder, Mohammad Amir and Raymon Reifer will be the premier pacers while the spin attack comprises the likes of Hayden Walsh Jr and Ashley Nurse.
On the other hand, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots made their debut only in 2015. They have finished with the wooden spoon (last) in three out of the six seasons. Their best season was in 2017 when they finished as the runners-up. In 2018 and 2019, they did reached the top four as well. However, their overall win-loss record doesn’t wear a good look as it stands at 24-37 and their win percentage of 39.51% is the second-worst among the current six teams. This year they have been bolstered by the inclusion of a couple of veterans – Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo. The likes of Evin Lewis, Fabian Allen, Sherfane Rutherford and Sheldon Cottrell only add to the depth of the side. Asif Ali, Ravi Bopara, Fawad Ahmed and Paul van Meekeren are some good overseas recruits as well.
Hence, given the depth of St Kitts & Nevis Patriots this time around, they start favourites. They have the winning odds of 1.7 while Barbados Royals currently stand at 2.16.
