Match Predictions and Team Previews

How They Qualified for the Final

Glamorgan Beat Essex

Glamorgan played host to Essex in the first semi-final at Sophia Garden, Cardiff, on 16 August. In that game, Essex batted first and got out to a good start with a century stand for the first wicket. But after Alastair Cook got out in the 21st over with the scoreboard reading 111/1, Essex, who appeared to be heading for a score well over 300, failed to consolidate and were eventually bowled out for 289 in the last over. Cook top scored with 68 off 66 deliveries, while Paul Walter contributed 50 from 38 balls. For Glamorgan, Joe Cooke was the best bowler taking 5/61. Michael Hogan, Lukas Carey, James Weighell, Andrew Salter, and Steven Reingold took one wicket each.

When Glamorgan replied, their openers gave them a head start with a stand of 95 in 13.4 overs. Thereafter, a regular fall of wickets reduced the home side to 182/5 before Tom Cullen and Joe Cooke got together in an unbroken sixth wicket stand to take their side home with 5 wickets and 2 overs to spare. Hamish Rutherford top scored with 67, while Nick Selman and Joe Cooke contributed fifties. For Essex, Tom Westley was the most successful bowler, taking 2/41, while Aron Nijjar, Simon Harmer, and Ryan ten Doeschate took a wicket each.

Durham Beat Surrey

Surrey and Durham faced off in the 2nd semi-final on 17 August at Chester-le-Street. Batting first, Surrey were reduced to 3 for 40 in the 8th over before a rescue act in the form of a 155-run 4th wicket stand between Mark Stoneman and Jamie Smith. But after Smith got out with the scoreboard reading 4 for 195 in the 40th over, the innings lost momentum. A lack of substantial partnerships owing to a regular fall of wickets saw Surrey restricted to 280/8. Mark Stoneman top scored with 117 from 134 balls, while Jamie Smith made 85 from 107 deliveries. For Durham, Chris Rushworth took 3/49 to emerge their best bowler, while Scott Borthwick took two wickets and Luke Doneathy took one.

When Durham replied, they got off to a solid start with an opening stand of 64, before Graham Clark lost his wicket. Alex Lees was joined at the wicket by Scott Borthwick and the pair added 119 for the 2nd wicket. With the scoreboard reading 183 for 2 in the 36th over, Durham needed to score less than 100 runs with nearly 15 overs to go. a quickfire stand for the 3rd wicket took the score to 222 for 3 in 40 overs. Needing 58 runs from the last 10 overs, Durham overwhelmed the target with 5 wickets and 15 balls to spare. Alex Lees top scored with 75 from 99 balls, while Scott Borthwick and David Bedingham made half-centuries. For Surrey, Matt Dunn was the best bowler, taking 2/49, while Tim David, Conor McKerr, and Rikki Clarke took one wicket each.
