Essex vs Derbyshire: May 13 County Championship 2021 Prediction

Match Predictions and Team Previews
Essex vs Derbyshire is one of the two sixth-round fixtures in Group 1 of this 2021 season of the County Championship. The County Ground in Chelmsford will host this game. Both these teams are reeling at the bottom of the Group 1 points table.
Essex, who won the Bob Willis Trophy last season, have had a sedate start to their 2021 campaign, winning one, losing one and drawing two. They drew their first game against Worcestershire but won their second one against Durham. That win was a stunning come-from-behind win as Essex recorded a 44-run win despite being bowled out for 96 in the first innings. Warwickshire beat them by seven wickets but Essex were dominant in the return fixture against Worcestershire before the game ended in a draw.
The batting has fared pretty well for Essex but the bowling attack has been dependant on just two players – Simon Harmer and Stephen Cook. The duo have taken 39 wickets between them and the next best is just five. Thus, Essex will be hoping their bowling can improve and come to the party.
Meanwhile, Derbyshire drew three games in a row before losing badly against Nottinghamshire. In their last game which was a loss, Derbyshire’s batting could muster a mere 265 runs across two innings against Nottinghamshire. In those three draws, Derbyshire fought really well and hung on to draws even after conceding the first-innings lead.
The Wayne Madsen-led side has been pretty good all-round. However, consistency has been the issue. Thus, Derbyshire will be in search of their first win.
Essex vs Derbyshire Prediction
Essex have a solid all-round side and their batting to go with the duo of Simon Harmer and Stephen Cook with the ball makes them a potent side. Moreover, their record against Derbyshire is magnificent and hence, they will start this game as favourites. However, don’t count Derbyshire out as they have fought hard this season and will be desperate for their first win of the season.
Summary
Essex and Derbyshire haven’t faced each other in the last five years. The last time they squared off was back in the 2016 season. It is Essex who have dominated this rivalry. Since the start of the 2014 season, Essex have won four out of the six games and the other two ended in a draw.
