What Is Forecast Betting?

A forecast is basically a bet in which a user picks the number of selections that will finish in a particular order according to him or her. It is usually associated with horse racing, Formula One, Moto GP or even other sports played in a tournament format where teams finish with some form of ranking.

For example, if you think team A will finish at the top of the points table and team B will come second, while team C will finish third and team D will come fourth, then you place a forecast bet for that particular order. You will win only if the teams finish in the respective positions that you have predicted (or bet) them to. In short, you could place a forecast bet on any set of selections to finish in a particular order. You could even bet on staggered positions if you don’t want to bet on continuous positions. Say, you can bet on team A to finish at the top, team B to finish fourth and team C to finish seventh and so on. The only thing is that the ones you have bet on need to finish in their particular positions. There is no leeway whatsoever.

In fact, a forecast bet can be placed on any sport. All that matters is there needs to be a winner and a loser at some point in the game. Forecast bets are not commonly offered. However, you can directly contact your bookmarkers and place your forecast bets.

There are various kings of forecast bets. They are listed as follows:

  • Straight Forecast
  • Reverse Forecast
  • Combination Forecast

Types of Forecast Betting

  • Straight Forecast: If you place a straight forecast bet, then the teams, players, or horses that you bet on to take particular positions need to finish in that very position and there cannot be even a small difference. This is a single stake forecast bet which will ensure you win the bet only if teams finish in their respective positions that you have predicted or bet on. So, if you bet on Team A to finish at the top and Team B to finish second, then those two teams need to finish first and second respectively for you to win the straight forecast. Even if Team B finishes first and Team A finishes second, you will lose the forecast bet.
  • Reverse Forecast: This is a forecast bet which allows some flexibility. If you place a reverse forecast bet, then the teams you bet on need to finish either the way you have predicted or bet on or in the reverse order. For example, if you predicted Team A to finish at the top and Team B to finish second, then you would win your reverse forecast bet if the teams finish as you predicted or if they finished in the reverse order, i.e. Team B finished first and Team A finished second. In the reverse forecast bet, the stake is double that in the straight forecast bet.
  • Combination Forecast: This is a forecast bet which provides quite a bit of leeway and flexibility. However, the stake involved is much higher as well and it will depend on the number of teams that you pick to place your bets on. The purpose of the combination forecast bet is to have two of your selections or picked teams finish in the top two positions in any order. For example, if you bet on three teams, A, B and C, then to win the combination forecast bet, you need two out of these three teams to finish in the top two. So, if you bet on three teams, you need to have six straight bets with the permutations and combinations of each of the three teams finishing first and second. If you bet on four teams, then you would have 12 straight bets and if the number of teams is five, you would have 20 straight bets.

What Is Tricast Betting?

As the name suggests, tricast betting comes into play when there are three selections. When the user picks three teams, players, or horses, he also picks the respective order in which each of them are likely to finish. For him or her to win the tricast bet, his or her selection picks need to finish in that particular order. If you picked Team A as the winner, Team B as the runners-up and Team C as the bronze medalists, then the results must be in that very order and only then you can win the tricast bet. This kind of bet needs a single unit stake. The tricast bets are also known as the trifectas.

Combination tricast bet is similar to the combination forecast bet in which there are multiple teams or players picked and a set of them need to finish in a particular position. In a combination tricast, you can have any number of selections among the selected teams or players, three of them need to finish in the top three. The order of them finishing isn’t important in the combination tricast bet. So, if you have teams A, B and C as your preferred selections, then three of these need to finish in the top three and irrespective of who finishes first, second or third, you will win the combination tricast bet. Like the combination forecast bet, the stakes involved are higher than the normal tricast bet as there are multiple selections involved and there is no fixed order to predict either.

Forecast Betting and Tricast Betting Explained

What Is A Multiple Forecast/Tricast?

A forecast or a tricast is classified as a multiple bet when your stake rolls on to the next race. For example, you can have a straight forecast bet placed on the first race and if you win, the stake that you have won rolls on to the next race and another forecast bet is placed. So, you can place your forecast or tricast bets on race one, race two, race three and so on.

Which Sports Can I Bet on Using Forecasts or Tricasts?

Forecasts and tricasts can be used in almost every sport there is. Be it football, cricket, snooker, tennis, golf or any other sport, forecasts and tricasts force their way in most of them. However, there are some sports which forecasts and tricasts are better suited for. Such sports and events are horse racing, Formula One, football, cricket and hockey tournaments which end with certain rankings or positions, golf, rugby, tennis with its Grand Slams and many more. Thus, in short, any sport that offers tournaments in which teams and players finish in a particular order or there are events that are defined in a certain manner is suitable for placing forecast bets and tricast bets.

What Benefits Are There to Forecast/Tricast Bets?

The main advantage of this kind of betting, be it forecast bets or tricast bets, is that it presents a longer odds option instead of going ahead with a single option. The odds are longer which means these are bets that can be difficult to accomplish. So, this is likely going to be a small stake bet with the hope that there is a significant reward if you win. Combination forecast bets or tricast bets are higher than the others but they are a lot more flexible when it comes to who can you bet on and whether you can win or not.

In Conclusion

Forecast and tricast bets are very popular in racing sports and the ones that are played in a tournament-like format. Be it a forecast bet or a tricast bet, the ultimate goal is to predict the finishing positions of a set of teams, players, or horses. A bet’s flexibility will then depend on the type of forecast or tricast bet you have chosen. The straight forecast or tricast is rigid and your selections need to finish in your predicted positions only and there can be no two ways about it. A reverse forecast or a tricast can have your selections finish in two orders – your predicted positions or in a reverse way. A combination forecast or a tricast has the maximum flexibility where you just pick your selections for certain positions and they can finish in any order with the only requirement to finish in your predicted positions. Moreover, depending on the type of forecast or tricast, the stake involved is different.

Type of Forecast / Tricast Flexibility Stake Involved
Straight Not flexible at all One unit
Reverse Moderately flexible Moderately high
Combination Flexible High
