Hungary vs Portugal: June 15, UEFA Euro 2020 Match Prediction

Date: June 15th, 2021

Venue: Ferenc Puskas Stadium, Budapest, Hungary.

Group F gets underway in Budapest as Hungary will welcome the current European Champions in what promises to be a fascinating encounter.

Portugal have enjoyed an unprecedented period of dominance in European football, winning both Euro 2016 and the UEFA Nations League in the last 5 years and they will be hoping to get off to a flyer here.

Match Preview

Hungary

Euro 2016 Result: Group Stage

Having qualified for back to back European Championships for the first time ever, Hungary look to have assembled a solid squad heading into Euro 2020.

With Budapest hosting a selection of Group F matches, they will have home advantage in a few games, and they will need it, with Portugal, France, and Germany on the agenda.

RB Leipzig Peter Gulasci is a key player for Hungary and his experience at the elite level in Europe could prove invaluable.

Attila Szalai is an important fixture in the Hungarian defence too, with Adam Nagy’s metronomic approach in midfield key to the way the Hungarians play.

László Kleinheisler is the creative force in midfield and with Adam Szalai a real threat up front, Hungary will feel they can grab a goal in any game they play.

Portugal

Euro 2016 Result: Winners

Portugal have moulded themselves into a real force in major tournament football and they are very much a side to watch again here at Euro 2020.

Their squad is littered with international talent and with so many big game players within their team, opposition sides will be hoping to avoid them as the tournament progresses.

Rui Patricio is a stalwart in goal for Portugal and has been for the best part of a decade, whilst Ruben Dias has earned rave reviews at the heart of the all-conquering Manchester City defence.

Joao Cancelo excels in the full-back role on either side of the pitch, whilst Bruno Fernandes was one of the Premier League’s standout performers last season.

Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix looks to be on the cusp of becoming one of the best players in the world and his partnership with the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo will be integral to their chances of defending their trophy this year.
