Match Predictions and Betting Odds
Jamaica Tallawahs square off against Barbados Royals in match number six of this 2021 season of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). This will be the third game in as many days for Barbados Royals while it will be the second one for Jamaica Tallawahs.
Jamaica Tallawahs are the first team in the history of the CPL to win two titles. They won the inaugural edition of the CPL in 2013 before winning their second title in 2016. They are one of the most consistent sides in the CPL and have reached the semi-finals in every season except 2019. Moreover, Jamaica Tallawahs are one of the only three CPL teams to have a win percentage in excess of 50% and their win-loss record currently stands at 43-41. Jamaica Tallawahs have a strong squad this time around. They have a slew of powerful all-rounders. Andre Russell leads that pack and has the likes of Carlos Braithwaite, Jason Mohammed and Chris Green for company. Fidel Edwards and Qais Ahmed will be the key bowlers.
Barbados Royals who were formerly known as the Barbados Tridents didn’t have a great start to the 2021 season. They lost their opening match against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. While they had a solid start with the ball and reduced St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to 38/3, the Barbados Royals bowlers couldn’t capitalize as they conceded 175. The batting just didn’t turn up and fell 21 runs short. Their overall record has been inconsistent and especially in the last five seasons, it’s been poor. Apart from the 2019 edition where they went on to win the title, Barbados Royals have finished with fifth or sixth. Thus, they will be desperate to turn things around this season.
The head-to-head record is almost neck and neck and both of these sides have been a touch inconsistent in the last few years. However, Jamaica Tallawahs have been slightly better and they will start this game as slight favourites. They have the winning odds of 1.77 and Barbados Royals are placed at 1.94 to win this game.
Summary
The rivalry between Jamaica Tallawahs and Barbados Royals has been a very closely contested one. These two sides have squared off 16 times across the eight seasons in the CPL and the head-to-head record currently stands at 8-7 in the favour of Jamaica Tallawahs. One game was washed out (in 2016). Last year, Barbados Royals won both the league encounters while in 2019, it was Jamaica Tallawahs who recorded two wins over Barbados Royals.
