Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders: October 15, IPL Final Match Prediction

October 15, 2021 7:30 pm
All good things come to an end, and this year’s Indian Premier League is no different. The stage is set for what should be a cracking IPL 2021 final amidst the sands of Dubai. The two contenders? Three-time champions Chennai Super Kings, who last won in 2019 and have bounced back after their first poor season in the history of the IPL last year, and Kolkata Knight Riders, who have two trophies of their own, but have not played a final since their 2014 triumph. Both teams are hungry and perfectly capable, and their records so far, at least in the second leg of the competition, put them on even ground and promise a fine margin based on form and, perhaps, a dash of luck.
As anyone following the IPL knows, CSK took the shorter route to the finals. They finished second in the league and defeated Delhi Capitals in the first qualifier to make it to their whopping 9th final overall. While they have won more titles than KKR, they also have the less ceremonious honour of having lost 5 finals.
CSK’s batting is heavily reliant on Orange Cap aspirant and breakthrough youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is 23 runs behind KL Rahul in that pursuit. Gaikwad has South African powerhouse Faf du Plessis and CSK veterans Ambati Rayudu and Robin Uthappa for company, as the two have recently seen a return to form. Ravindra Jadeja will, hopefully for CSK, reprise his occasionally talismanic role with both bat and ball, while Aussie pacer Josh Hazlewood and Deepak Chahar help out with the latter.
It’s been a long, 7-year struggle for KKR to get back into the final of an IPL, as the team was consistently placed within 3rd and 5th since then and just seemed to lack that killer instinct to take them all the way. However, this UAE leg of the competition seems to have worked wonders for them, as they have embarked on a spectacular comeback journey – the final leg of which is nigh with their fate theirs to make. They made their way to the final by beating both Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals, and they don’t look like they intend to stop any time soon.
For KKR, Shubman Gill’s performance is a big question mark, but if it turns into an exclamation mark their chances of winning will increase greatly. Youngster Venkatesh Iyer, their newfound batting hero, might also play a pivotal role along with Nitish Rana and Rahul Tripathi. KKR’s real strength, though, lies in their bowling, with Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine, Shivam Mavi, and Shakib Al Hasan all dangerously potent candidates to collect a few CSK scalps.
Match Prediction and Betting Odds
The odds for these two teams are literally neck and neck, with CSK edging out the latter by the barest of margins – most likely due to their head-to-head record over the last 5 matches. This is one match where it’s literally anyone’s game, but we’ll go with CSK for our IPL 2021 match 60 prediction.
